Winning is important , but winning with right spirit, ethics and professionalism is equally important to keep human values alive - ABSUM

Genre : Self Help , Inspirational Fiction

Rating : ✬✬✬✬⋆/✬✬✬✬✬

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ABSUM is a Software Professional and an avid traveler. His love for chess prompted him to become a chess coach and trains young kids to be better at a game which he calls “A game that teaches you to be better professional." He is a strong advocate of learning from sports for management and believes that management professionals have much more to learn from sports than any book on management.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It happened in Bengaluru  is an extremely engaging book that delivers an interesting perspective of ever changing IT field. This narrative brings out a very intelligent parallel between the game of chess and skills to succeed in the workplace. The author’s imagination, writing skills is a testimony to the fact that this articulation could be bought out only by a chess genius.

One of the classic lessons from the game of chess and which is my favorite too is well expressed by the author in the following lines

The reason’s of our action should be a wish of future and not a fact from our past.

A piece of work with a lot of insights that leaves the reader enthralled and intrigued analogous comparison of workplace success and the Game of Chess.

STORY LINE

This is a story of Aryan, a young successful professional, who lost his heart and soul in the ugly aftermath of recession that hit global economy towards the end of first decade on 21st century. Just when Aryan decides to resign and get out of the filthy experience , he meets someone very mysterious and then his life changes  forever.

On advise and support of this mysterious friend he decides to stay on and continue with his efforts of fighting back and win his honor only to realize that this win is not the goal he was looking for.

How this mysterious character introduces each piece of chess in Aryan’s life and the learning from each chess piece makes the story extremely interesting and adventurous too.

WHAT’S THERE IN IT FOR YOU?

Even if you are not a chess enthusiast you will be able to relate with the story as it talks about life lessons and how each piece on chess can help you understand life better.

This book will help you to broaden your horizon for both creative and critical thinking.

Just like in life, you can either aimlessly wonder around, hoping for a miracle, or get yourself a goal, build a plan and strive to accomplish it. The latter is no guarantee of success, but the former is a sure recipe for failure. This book teaches you to have a goal and overcome the obstacles on your way there.

Reading the book will help you take on your day-today challenges more effectively which in turn will help you have time and energy to do more innovative tasks.

FINAL WORD

This book is a perfect blend of fiction and non-fiction. If your are looking for a suspense , adventure with great learning this is highly recommended.
